This is a new weekly series to address two separate issues.  First, I subscribe to about 67 blogs and counting. And every time I come across a review of a book that I like, I star it in Google Reader and then much later transfer the title onto a growing list of books that I really want to read or check out. This method is simply not working for me; I frequently forget to click on Starred Items until that list becomes too long and then it is a chore – and I don’t like those!   Second, I’ve signed up to participate in The 2010 Blog Improvement Project (2010 BIP) and the assignment for week 4 is to “Promote Member of Your Group”. A Bookshelf Monstrosity commented that she has a weekly feature in which she highlights books reviewed on other blogs . Very similar to Friday Finds, hosted by MizB of Should be Reading.

So a la Wading Through My Wishlist and Friday Finds, every Saturday, I will feature books discussed on other blogs that I want to read. This should also satisfy the assignment for the 2010 BIP  and I think it will be a better way of organizing the list of books that I want to explore.  So for this week….

• The Solitude of Prime Numbers by Paolo Giordano.   This book has been on my radar for a while now. Winner of the 2008 Strega Prize and a work in translation, my interest is certainly piqued. It seems to split the crowd between those who, like Rob of robaroundbooks, think it is amazing and those, like Jackie of Farm Lane Books, who think it is simply okay. • The Small Island and The Long Song, both by Andrea Levy. How is it that I haven’t read anything by Andrea Levy. Obviously a reading gap that I must, must close. Savidge Reads recommends starting with The Long Song if one hasn’t ready any Levy. Farm Lane Books raved about The Small Island. Check out Lizzie’s Literary Life’s thoughts on The Long Song.
• The Unit by Ninni Holmqvist.  This Swedish debut novel has drawn comparisons to Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go and Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale. I was intrigued by su[shu]’s review.
• A Life Apart by Neel Mukherjee.  Well, I was hooked by Savidge Reads’ glowing review and then, quite coincidentally, by robaroundbooks’ afterthoughts.
