Over the past several weeks, fellow bloggers have tempted me with the following books:
- The Library at Night by Alberto Manguel – a collection of essays on libraries. things mean a lot says of the book “it’s riveting and deeply personal, and it’s one of the most well-written non-fiction books I’ve read in a long time. Highly recommended to book lovers of every persuasion”.
- Red April by Santiago Roncagliolo – it is set in Peru and it’s about a murder investigation. Translated by Edith Grossman. Farm Lane Books rates it 4/5 and recommends it to fans of Spanish Literature.
- Sea of Poppies by Amitav Ghosh – I haven’t read anything by Ghosh though I’ve been meaning to. Eva’s glowing, gushing review has pushed it to the top of my wishlist.
- Borges and the Eternal Orangutans by Luis Fernando Verissimo – described as a literary homage to Borges and other writers. A Futile Preoccupation says “If you like an intelligent read (think Michael Frayn), full of literary allusions, then this is a book for you”. I do!
- Grotesque by Natsuo Kirino – I’m always on the lookout for more contemporary Japanese women writers and thanks to The Reading Life for reviewing this book. A new author for me.
- Alphabet of the Night by Jean-Euphele Milce – Well, as usual, Winstonsdad’s blog is a good source for international fiction. The author is Haitian and Stu says he “is an exciting writer and a new voice for the region”

Interesting additions to your wish list 🙂 ‘The Library at Night’ sounds quite interesting. I have Alberto Manguel’s ‘The History of Reading’ on my ‘To Be Read’ list. I will have to add this too. I have read ‘Grotesque’ by Natsuo Kirino, a few years back. It was an interesting book – I found it powerful and bleak. Hope you enjoy reading it. I have heard a lot of wonderful things about Amitav Ghosh’s books, but somehow have never got around to reading them. Hope you enjoy reading all these new additions to your wish list!

I think I’m going to add some of these to my already too-long wish list. Grotesque is already on my list, but I’ll be adding The Library at Night and Red April. Good post!

Thanks Kinna: A friend recommended the book to me, and I enjoyed it so much I went right out and bought Club of Angels by the same author–a book about a club of gourmet food-obsessed people.

I enjoyed Grotesque by Natsuo Kirino, but Out was fantastic – one of my top 10 reads of all time. I highly recommend that you start with Out (unless you like saving the best until last!!)
