February, March 2012

What a difference a month makes.  The bookish year began well with January’s reading and adventures.  But it proved difficult combining bookish pursuits into a completely hectic February.  It was all work and projects.  I’m involved in two interesting projects; one about literacy, the other on social media and Ghana’s 2012 elections.  I will talk more about these in March.  I’ve been gone from this blog  for too long and I do miss it.

I managed to read only 2 books in February: And Now You Can Go by Vida Vendela and Glorious Nemesis by Ladislav Klima.  I loved the Klima book.

I’m still working my way through Sudden Fiction International: 60 Short Short Stories edited by Robert Shapiro and James Thomas.  I also started reading  Contemporary African Short Stories edited by Chinua Achebe and C.L. Innes.

  3. Your month has been crazy busy, even two reads seems quite good! Also, they sound really interesting. All the books you have selected for March also sound good. I’m especially intrigued by The Book of Chameleons which I keep hearing good things about.

  4. I enjoyed my February reading – One Day I will Write about this place (Wainaina), Changes (Aidoo) and Mere Christianity (CS Lewis); as well as a few delightful short stories.
    I’m a little book-weary right now, so I’ll pick up my next read in mid-March.

    What did you think of Vendela Vida? I have Northern Lights, but yet to read it.

  5. My reading in February was all-round satisfying: great mix of fiction and non-fiction (including the amazing Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson). So far my reading year has been pretty close to ideal, so I’m planning to keep on this track, if I can, to make March just as satisfying. I’m always glad to see something of yours appear in my Reader, but I do understand how busy things can be, how unexpectedly you can find yourself without any time at all for such things!

  8. Good to see you’re back! I look forward to hearing about your projects, especially the one on social media and this year’s elections. My reading in February was not as consistent as I would have hoped. I read “The thing around your neck” and moved on to “Their eyes were watching God.” I hope I can be done in the next few days.

  9. It can be difficult to keep up. Last year found me in similar situations and this year some work plans I’ve seen and which I must of necessity be part of shows that it is going to be tough from April to June. I’m making hey whilst the sun is shining before the setting sun darkens my reading horizons.

    Though you had already read The Book of Chameleons. I would love to read your opinion on this fascinating book. The blurb deceived me and it limited my enjoyment.
