Congratulations to Fiston Mwanza Mujilla. He was awarded the 2015 Etisalat Prize for Literature for his debut novel Tram 83, at a star-studded event in Lagos last night.
The Etisalat Prize has won a reprieve. After its dismal failure to even shortlist Kintu last year, anything short of a win for Tram 83 and I would have quit the Prize. Since I don’t feel up to grand, bold statements these days, a narrow escape is handy!
I thank the jury of Ato Quayson, Zukiswa Wanner and Molara Wood for restoring balance to the world, at least in this small West African corner of Lashibi.
Y’all have a good Sunday. I know I will :).
Wow! This is great. I had no idea that was even happening last night. Randomly, I started reading Tram 83 last night! Excited to get more into it now. Thanks for the announcement.
