Shortlist for the 2013 Golden Baobab Prizes, winners to be announced on November 13.

The shortlist for this year’s Golden Baobab Prizes was announced on November 1.

The following, out of a longlist of 25, moved on to the next round:

The Golden Baobab Prize for Picture Books

The Princess with a Golden Voice – Philip Begho (Nigeria),  who has published over 40 books. He writes everything: plays, short stories, children’s books, young adult literature, poetry  and novels.

The Little Hippo – Liza Esterhuyse (South Africa)

Grandma Mimo’s Breakfast – Carol Gachiengo (Kenya)

The Golden Baobab Prize for Early Chapter Books

Seven – Sabina Mutangadura (Zimbabwe)

Rhino – Richard Street (South Africa)

The Golden Baobab Prize for Rising Writers

The Little Secret – Fego Martins Ahia (Nigeria)

Pieces of Africa – Kanengo Rebecca Diallo (Tanzania), at 12, is the youngest writer ever to be on a Golden Baobab shortlist!

Winners will be announced on November 13.  Good luck to all the writers.
